In Russia, sales of new cars in April this year collapsed by 78.5%. Over the month, domestic drivers bought only 32,702 cars and almost all the companies on the list of the most popular ones showed sharply negative results. Moreover, these figures were even worse than April 2020, when many dealerships in the country did not work due to the lockdown. The main reason for such figures is the shortage of cars at dealers due to logistical problems and a difficult geopolitical situation.
Autonews.ru found out what cars are in demand among Russians even in such a difficult time, whether there are still models in showrooms and how much dealers ask for them.
Lada Granta
Lada Granta continues to hold the first place in the rating of the most popular cars in Russia (2,598 cars sold vs. 14,050 a year earlier). At the moment, this car can be bought with 1.6-liter engines with 87, 98 and 106 hp.
In the spring of this year, the Lada Granta also received a modernized eight-valve power unit. The motor develops 90 hp and 143 Nm of torque. On the official website, prices for the model start from 727,900 rubles. However, at Moscow dealers the most affordable Lada Granta we could not find cheaper than for 1 million rubles.
Lada Vesta
The second place in the popularity rating goes to Lada Vesta. In April, this car sold 1,977 units. For example, in the same period last year, 11,178 customers opted for this car.
The Vesta family includes a sedan and station wagon, which also have "high" modifications Cross. The cars are equipped with 1.6-liter engines with an output of 106 and 113 hp, as well as a 122-horsepower 1.8-liter motor. The units work together with a five-speed manual or variator. In addition, the model has a Sport modification, it received a 145-horsepower 1.8-liter motor.
On the official AvtoVAZ website, the recommended price for the Vesta is a minimum of 1,121,000 rubles. Taking into account the dealer markup to this amount should be added several hundred thousand rubles.
Lada Niva
The top three best-selling cars in Russia are the domestic Lada Niva, which has once again won the title of the most popular model in the segment of crossovers and SUVs. During the month the car sold out 1,941 copies, which is 3,405 units less than a year earlier. Now Lada Niva Legend is one of the most localized models in Russia, which is second only to Lada Granta in terms of the share of domestic components in the design.
The SUV is equipped with a 1.7-liter gasoline engine producing 83 hp and 129 Nm. The engine works together with a five-speed manual transmission and all-wheel drive with a transfer case and inter-axle differential lock.
Prices for the car, specified on the site of AvtoVAZ, start from 818 900 rubles. And in Moscow it is difficult to find a model in the basic configuration at dealers now. The SUV can easily be purchased in the middle version Luxe, but it will cost no less than 1.5 million rubles.
Hyundai Solaris
Korean sedan Hyundai Solaris became the most popular foreign car on our market: 1,804 units sold (3,359 less than in April 2021). In our market, the car is offered with a 1.4-liter engine with 100 hp or with a 1.6-liter unit developing 123 forces. Transmissions are six-speed mechanics or automatic.
On the official website of Hyundai, the minimum price for the car is 1,408,000 rubles. In three trading companies in the capital, we refused to sell the car cheaper than 1,600,000 rubles.
Kia Rio
The fifth place in the rating is occupied by Kia Rio. In our market, this car is now available in sedan and hatchback (Rio X). In April, the Koreans were able to sell 1,660 such cars in Russia against 6,996 a year earlier. The model is produced at the Hyundai plant in St. Petersburg. Engines: 1.4 or 1.6 liters (100 and 123 hp, respectively).
The cost of the sedan in the base version (data from the official website) - 1,434
900 rubles. Rio X hatchback will cost at least 1,574,000 rubles. However, in two Moscow showrooms, the sedan in the base version on mechanics was not available at once. As a result, we were offered Rio with automatic transmission in Comfort for 1,769,000 rubles. As for the hatchback Rio X in the initial version "on the handle", then in one of the Moscow suburbs dealer centers such a car was estimated at 1,690,000 rubles.
